Programming a RCA Universal Remote
to Sony TVs

As previously mentioned, the success of programing your remote and TV will depend on codes. These sets of digits are designed to match and bridge the connection between your Sony TV and RCA remote. Not all codes will work for the specific models of your Sony TV and remote, so it’s important to test out different ones for a seamless connection.

Here is our technical team’s guide on how to do it:

1. Collect by jotting down or screenshotting all the codes we listed below so you can save time later on. Next, check if your remote has full and working batteries. This will ensure that it won’t cut the programming process.

2. Next, plug your TV and turn it on.

3. Press the TV button on your remote. Hold the Setup button for several seconds.

4. Wait until the light flashes on the remote. This is a sign that it is in “Learning Mode.”

5. Once it’s on the Learning Mode, you may now enter the four or five digit code from the list you’ve written or saved earlier with the remote buttons.

6. Now, direct your remote control to your TV and press and hold the power button. Release it when the TV completely shuts down.

7. If the TV didn’t power off, it is an indicator that the code wasn’t a match and that the programming failed. However, if the TV did turn off, it means that the programming has been successfully conducted.

8. Now, it’s time to check if the TV responds to other actions and commands. Press some buttons on the remote control and see if it follows. Try the volume, channel, and settings button to completely see if it the TV responds.

While this sounds easy for now, there are some cases where you have to restart all over again because of incompatible codes. Make sure to double check if you have encoded them directly and observe if you’re doing the steps correctly. Working slowly but surely is the way to go in this process.
