Vizio SB2920-C6 (2.0) Soundbar Review

Vizio is an extremely popular brand in the soundbar industry. Still, you can end up with a model that doesn’t live up to your expectations. So in this Vizio SB2920 C6 review, we’re going in-depth to see if it’s worth it.

What We Like

What We Don't Like

Right off the bat, the Vizio SB2920-C6 soundbar has a compact design at 29 inches, which is the optimal size for most TVs. You have the option to either mount it on the wall or simply put in on your TV stand. Either way, the setup is easy and the performance is decent – but more on the specifics later.

The Vizio SB2920-C6 Design

Let’s start this Vizio SB2920-C6 review by discussing the design. Aesthetics-wise, you get a predominantly black sound bar design with silver accents for a sleek and slender finish. There’s not much to discuss in this aspect, but it complements your interiors while enhancing your TV speakers too.

Measuring at just a mere 29 inches, the Vizio soundbar pairs perfectly with TVs that are 32 inches and above. Since most household TVs are around that size or larger, it makes the Vizio the optimal choice. It’s also among the perfect soundbars for smaller TVs, so it’s great if that’s what you have.

The SB2920-C6 also features LED indicators on the left side. These let you know how your sound bar is performing. To understand what these little lights are signifying, you can refer to the user manual. But mostly, these indicators show if devices are paired and if the system is working flawlessly.

Lastly, this soundbar only weighs a minimal 4.5 pounds (2 kg). It’s also one of the lighter products on the market, which makes wall mounting much easier. Even if you don’t mount it, it will be easy to move around and connect to other TVs in the house.

Vizio SB2920-C6 Features Review

Placement

The compact design definitely contributes to the flexibility in placement. This sound bar can be easily wall-mounted, placed on a shelf, or put on a tabletop without obstructing smaller TVs.

So whether you have limited space or enough room for a larger soundbar, the Vizio SB2920-C6 will fit in seamlessly.

If you do decide to mount the soundbar on the wall to save some space, the mounting kit comes with the package as well. You won’t have to spend time and money looking for compatible hardware, because everything you need comes with the box.

Sound Quality

For such a compact soundbar, this device can pump out 95 dB (decibels) of expansive sound. That is pretty loud even for the average user, so we don’t recommend turning it up to full 95 dB to protect your hearing [1]. It is a perfect soundbar for small-sized rooms given its sound quality.

The Vizio SB2920-C6 operates at a frequency of 70Hz to 19kHz. That means you won’t lose any sound quality when you turn the speaker volume up. In our tests, the soundbar was able to provide a great audio experience with very minimal harmonic distortion, which is very important if you like your music loud.

Actually, Vizio claims that this soundbar has less than 1% of harmonic distortion. In our tests, it’s a little bit more than that, but it’s still so insignificant that you can get crystal clear sound at any speaker volume.

While testing this rig out for our Vizio SB2920 C6 review, our audio experts agree that it’s comparable to other premium soundbars despite having an affordable price. Even if it’s just a 2.0 channel soundbar, it still has a high bass output that gives a better home theater experience.

Still, if you want some serious bass, we do recommend adding an external subwoofer to the room for a full home theater simulation. Otherwise, this works perfectly fine.

Bluetooth

When we search for wireless audio connections in soundbars or home theater systems, the one that pops out mostly is Bluetooth.

The built-in Bluetooth for the Vizio SB2920-C6 soundbar eliminates unsightly wires and reduces the clutter. You can stream music straight from your mobile devices using Bluetooth, allowing your 2.0 channel soundbar to pump out the best quality audio from the speaker – whichever room you are in the house.

Aside from streaming, another advantage of Bluetooth connectivity is it provides a way to connect the soundbar to an external wireless subwoofer. Adding one subwoofer to the room will significantly improve range, sound quality, bass, and the overall home theater experience.

Thankfully, most sound bars today are equipped with Bluetooth. Other models from the brand are also Bluetooth-enabled.

Surround Sound

All Vizio SB2920-C6 soundbars are designed with top-quality DTS surround sound technology. Your new 2.0 channel soundbar features DTS Studio Sound ™, DTS Tru Volume ™, and DTS TruSurround ™.

If you’re new to hearing these terms, these are all surround sound formats that will simulate surround sound quality to improve your audio experience. While it’s not as close to Atmos, the sound quality will feel atmospheric.

The TruSurround and Studio Sound take flat sound from your TV speakers and generate an immersive experience even without rear speakers in your system. It is one of the excellent soundbars to connect to your Sharp TV, too. It creates a virtual surround-sound that offers the audience realistic sound effects that were otherwise unachievable by a small soundbar.

On the other hand, DTS TruVolume is responsible for maintaining the and optimal volume level for the content onscreen. You only have to input the settings once and the technology will take care of the rest, giving you consistent volume whatever is playing.

So if you seek an immersive experience that you thought only theaters can offer, the installation of a small and simple soundbar can achieve that well.

SB2920-C6 - A Simple Setup?

If a product is hard to set up, most users will be deterred. We agree that soundbars should always have an easy setup and that users shouldn’t have to go through a lot of research and reviews just to get a soundbar up and running.

While we’ve encountered products that have a tricky setup, the Vizio SB2920-C6 isn’t one of them. The box comes with every cable you need to connect the soundbar to your TV, including the 3.5mm stereo audio cable, digital coaxial cable, and the digital optical cable. The remote control is in there too.

Using the remote control didn’t give us many problems. It works great, and it’s easy to use for adjusting movie or music settings as you like.

For troubleshooting issues, the user manual is also included. We also covered common troubleshooting tips for soundbars.

Connections

In relation to the setup, multiple connectivity options are also important. The Vizio SB2920-C6 soundbar can connect to external devices in different ways, including USB, RCA, 3.5 mm, digital optical input, and coaxial input.

Every soundbar review we make puts an emphasis on the way a device can connect to the TV. That’s because the more connection options a soundbar has, the more versatile it is.

Therefore, you can customize your home sound system more easily. If you want to add a wired subwoofer or any external device, for instance, your soundbar won’t have any compatibility issues.

Vizio SB2920-C6 Drivers

The Vizio SB2920-C6 is designed with two full range drivers. In case this term is new to you, the driver part of the speaker is responsible for pumping out the sound. Often referred to as the loudspeaker, the driver creates the audio you hear.

The 2 impressive full-range drivers in this Vizio model can cover the full range of notes from low to high. This ensures that every last detail of the song you play or the movie you watch can be heard in the room. This kind of range does make the quality a lot better.

In any soundbar you purchase, make sure to get high quality full range drivers so you’ll experience the best audio with all the details.

Channels

The Vizio SB2920-C6 is a 2.0 channel soundbar, which means it has 2 channels located left and right.

A 2-channel soundbar is the most basic thing you can get because otherwise, it’s just a regular speaker. Soundbars can go up to 7 channels, but that would be more expensive.

If you just want a basic upgrade to your TV speakers, a 2 channel sounding bar like this Vizio model will do the job. But if you want to have advanced DTS or Dolby technology for surround sound, 5 channels is the gold standard. But again, it can be expensive.

In the end, our testing of this product showed that it can simulate surround sound. That still doesn’t hide the fact that it’s just a 2 channel soundbar, which is something that audiophiles may not like.

Control

The Vizio 2.0 channel sound bar comes with its own remote but it also features a control panel on the soundbar itself. This is useful in case you misplace the remote at any time in the future, and that happens to most of us anyway.

You can use the remote to set up controls and settings, depending on how you like to hear your music or movies from the speakers. As expected, we didn’t have any issues with the remote and our tests went smoothly.

Warranty

While this isn’t a feature for the product itself, having a 1-year warranty is better as it does put consumers’ minds at ease. If anything goes wrong with the sound bars, a return or a replacement is possible if a warranty is intact.

Overall, the Vizio SB2920-C6 reviewed here passes our standards. It offers an immersive and expansive sound with very minimal distortion, allowing you to enjoy movies and music with a home theater feel.

Like other speakers at this price point, the SB2920-C6 provides the best audio quality with DTS technology. The overall cinematic experience is decent, although the 2 channels has its obvious drawbacks. The Vizio SB2920-C6 is also one of our favorite soundbars for TVs made by the same brand.
