There are several ways to fix this and our technical team will go through each one of them. We also added more tips and options to try to get your LG Smart TV back to connecting to WiFi as soon as possible.

Troubleshooting LG TV Not Connecting to WiFi Issue

Fix #1: Reboot Your Router

Before you begin looking at your LG TV for any issues, you might want to check your Wi-Fi router first.

Check your other devices and if nothing is able to connect to your wireless router, then the problem has nothing to do with your TV. Here are the steps to reboot your router:

  1. Keep your router on.
  2. Get a paperclip and find the reset button.
  3. Use the paperclip to hold the reset button for 30 seconds.
  4. Release the button and wait for the router to restart.

If this fails and you still don’t have internet access, you might want to buy a new router for your Wi-Fi.

Fix #2: Power Cycling

If your LG Smart TV can’t connect to the Wi-Fi automatically, power cycle it to drain all residual energy in it.

All you need to do is hold the power button for 30 seconds before turning it off, then unplugging its power cord from the socket. After waiting a few minutes, turn it on again and see if you can connect to your WiFi.

Fix #3: Update Time and Date Settings

Updating your time and date settings might seem like an unusual solution, but for all you know, it could be set on the wrong date for some reason.

To update the time and date of your LG TV settings, all you have to do are the following things:

settings of tv
  1. Press the Home button then click the Settings icon.
  2. Go to All Settings then select General.
  3. Once you’re in General, choose the Time and Date option.

Once you do that, set the time and date manually and input your local time and date instead.

Fix #4: Change WLAN Network Band

Before you think about serious defects on your LG Smart TV, check your wireless network first.

It may be that your Wifi network is using an ISP on 5.0 GHz which can only work on LG TVs released before 2019. If so, you’ll have to change your network to run on 2.4 GHz. To do this you need to:

  1. Open your router’s settings on a web browser.
  2. Click the network icon.
  3. Find the Band icon and change it from 5.0 GHz to 2.4 GHz.
  4. Select Apply changes and close the settings.

  3. Find the current DNS Server setting and edit it.
  4. Uncheck the Set Automatically tickbox.
  5. Enter 8.8.8.8 into the DNS Server text box then click Connect.

You can also check other DNS Servers to choose from aside from the 8.8.8.8 server if it doesn’t work.

Maybe there is no WiFi issue on your TV. Check your WiFi and look if they have a Guest Network that you’ve been accidentally connecting to.

If so, turn off that feature and connect to your Wi-Fi as usual.

Fix #7: Use an Ethernet Cable

If you can’t connect to your Wi-Fi through wireless means, you could always connect your LG Smart TV directly to your router. You can do it by attaching a cable from the router to your Smart TV through the ethernet port on the back of your LG Smart TV.

Fix #8: Unblock Your MAC Address

Sometimes, your MAC address could be blocked by your internet service provider. But that’s not something you need to pull your hair over. All you need to do is whitelist it.

All you have to do is go to Settings, go to General, and find the MAC Address in the About This TV section.

You can contact your internet provider to unblock it, or you could do it yourself by changing your router settings.

Fix #9: WiFi Router Location

Maybe it’s not about the connection, but the proximity of your router to your LG TV. Simply put the router closer to your LG TV and see if that works.

Interference Issues

Check if there are no other devices close to your router that could cause interference to the signals.

Things like microwaves, cordless phones, baby monitors, and other Bluetooth devices should be moved away so they don’t interfere with your Wi-Fi connection.

Aside from that, you could have another router working on the same frequency. This is most common if you live in an apartment. Change the frequency and check if that works.

Smart TVs will need an update once in a while, and your LG Smart TV is no different.
